Australia generates approximately 3.4 million tonnes of plastic waste each year. Unfortunately, a significant portion of this ends up in landfills, with an estimated 2.5 million tonnes of plastic waste being disposed of annually. This has severe environmental consequences, as plastics can take hundreds of years to break down, releasing harmful toxins and contributing to soil and water pollution. Additionally, plastic waste poses a threat to wildlife through ingestion and entanglement, further underscoring the urgent need to reduce plastic usage and enhance recycling efforts to mitigate the damage to our planet’s ecosystems.
